Report Round the World (10)

59. Concepcion, SCIE - 10.0208 - 250 NM - 2:00

Carriel del Sur - This was a flight over a valley with agriculture and a lot of dry rivers crossing each other coming down from the Andes.
If we had to live in Concepcion we would feel like the person in chains according to the enclosed picture.

60. Montevideo, SUAA - 11.02.08 - 919 NM - 7:33

Angel S. Adami - A flight over three countries Chile, Argentina and Uruguay crossing the Andes from the South Pacific to the South Atlantic with bright sun shine. Montevideo is a city which is only nice at the second view because a lot of buildings are destroyed.

With a very punctual coach we went to Punta del Este. A luxory place with beautiful beaches and high life, simply beautiful. We met Marina and Gustavo from Argentina whom we saw the first time at Karawari in New Guini and who are having an apartement in Punta del Este. It was great to see each other again. Yes, so small is our world.

61. San Fernando, SADF - 14.02.08 - 140 NM - 1:02

Buenos Aires, San Fernando - Again an unimportant flight along the coast line of Urugay. Buenos Aires is a moloch of a capital with approx. 19 million inhabitants. Everybody warned us about the dangerous crime. According to our opions it is not worse than from Hamburg till Munich. So people take away all the image of their city. For us Buenos Aires is a fantastic and interestering city, even when the tango is only a show nowadays.

Partenavia pilot from Lithunia please contact us once more, as your e-mail-address got lost. Thank you!

62. Cataratas d. Igu., SARI - 17.02. - 735 NM-5:55

Cataratas del Iguazu - It was a wild rodeo ride over the Parana till Iguazu. All 5-6 hands were needed that we didn't fell from the saddle. 21 years ago we flew with the helicopter over the falls, this time with the own aircraft, just a dream. The next day we visited every corner of the falls and our feet smoked like the falls. An incredibable scenery!

63. Ascuncion, SGAS - 19.02.08 - 175 NM - 1:26

Ascuncion/Paraguay - Fields, meadows and a lot of cattle beneath us during the flight. The town and the inhabitants made a very poor impresssion to us and a lot of buildings are destroyed. Only one beautiful white palace we found in the centre of Asuncion, the "Pantéon de los Héroes".

64. Santa Cruz, SLVR - 21.02.08 - 610 NM - 4:42

Santa Cruz, Viru Viru -The Parana River is wide spread with a huge swampland. Afterwards you'll find only damp bush- and forest landscape. Yawning, yawnin, no flying variety. We had a nice welcome in Bolivia without any red tape. Santa Cruz offered already much more in comparision to Asuncion.

65. Cochabamba, SLCB - 22.02.08 - 205 NM - 1:44

Flying to Cochabamba is only possible with our aircraft under VFR. At Viru Viru it rained and the clouds had layers nearly to the ground. Cochabamba, 8360 ft., reported good visibility and broken at 6000 ft. within the valley. But to get in first of all it was necessary to subjugate the mountains with an altitude of 4000 till 6000 metres which were completely covered by clouds. Without the terrain warning and very well prepared waypoints we could forget this flight. Out of the clouds and during the descent into the valley we had a tremendous view; just a dream. Not only from the air, also later on during our city walking tour, Cochabamba is simply gorgeous. All over clean and beautiful tropical places with fountains. Old houses, palaces, arcades; all is kept in very good conditions. We met friendly smiling people, partly in their colourful liveries. This is the country of the Quechua.
