Report Round the World (4)

21. Halls Creek, YHLC – 29.11.07 – 220 NM – 1:36

You turn around and nothing can be discovered. But the flight was beautiful. We flew low over the Bungle-Bungle National Park with its different rocks and canyons and in before the deep blue Lake Agrile.

22. Newman, YNWN – 30.11.07 – 545 NM – 4:02

This was a flight over the Great Sandy Desert. The ground showed all different colours you can imagine. On half of the way we saw an uranium mine. You feel like being at the end of the world, a real remote area with 45° C in the shadow and again, flies, flies, flies. Sorry but until today we didn’t meet the so called friendly mate. Funny?

23. Shark Bay, YSHK – 01.12.07 – 465 NM – 4:00

Very strong head wind accompanied us over the desert until we reached the Indian Ocean. The highlight is Monkey Mia with the famous dolphins. They are swimming close to the beach and you’re allowed to feed them under supervision of the rangers. A beautiful place, a nice beach and warm water. Finally we got some relaxation.

This was only a refuelling stop

25. Northam, YNTM – 3.12.07 – 340 NM – 2:04

This was a very bumpy flight over farms with grain, cattle and sheep. Here we received a great welcome by Claude Meunier, an earthrounder from 1996 with his Aerostar. We were invited to his farm and of course we exchanged a lot of experiences in a great atmosphere. On Dec. 4, 07 when we planned to leave we couldn’t start the right engine. The starter motor failed (a new one was installed in August 2007) and couldn’t be repaired. Thanks to Claude who arranged everything for us and gave us all his support and so we were able to continue our flight only 2 days later with a new starter motor.

26. Ceduna, YCDU – 6.12.07 – 880 NM – 5:57

Due to the failure of the starter motor we changed our routing. In low level we flew across the country and along the south coast with beautiful cliffs. Ceduna is a famous village for seafood which is served fresh and it tasted very nice. So we forgot the approach with 42 knots of crosswind.

27. Kingscote, YKSC – 7.12.07 – 300 NM – 2:25

This island is better known under the name Kangaroo Island. It’s a National Park for koalas, penguins, sea lions, seals and the dying out of the black cockatoo. Actually, we intended to discover this place for 2 days with a rented car. Unfortunately, 2/3 of the roads were closed due to fires. So we had to go without sea lions and seals and couldn’t listen to their grunting. But we were able to hug the kangaroos.
